Spring is the perfect time to start fresh, and what better place to begin than with your garage? It’s the one area of your home that tends to get neglected all year round, but now is the time to clean it up and organize it for the coming months since the warmer weather is creeping up on us.

Here are some tips on how to clean your garage for spring.

1 - Empty The Garage Space

The first step in cleaning your garage is to declutter. Take everything out of the garage and sort through it. Even go as far as parking your car outside to get a full feel of the space and you can use your lawn and some large blankets or tarps to sort out your piles.

Decide what to keep, donate, sell, or throw away. Be ruthless when deciding what to keep, as the goal is to free up space and make the garage more organized.

2 - Sweep and Dust the Floor

Let’s be honest here, we don’t think of sweeping the garage or dusting the corners to get rid of cobwebs, but trust us, it is going to help you.

Once you’ve removed everything from the garage, sweep and dust the area thoroughly. Pay attention to corners and any hard-to-reach areas where dust may accumulate and banish any webs and debris that might still be hanging around.

Working with a clean space is going to make it so much easier to figure out where things should be stored.

3 - Check for Mold and Mildew

Take the time to check for mold and mildew or any other types of gunk that might be lurking around your appliances such as your washer and your freezer. If you find any, use a solution of bleach and water to clean it up.

Be sure to wear gloves and a mask, and keep the garage door open for extra ventilation to protect yourself from the fumes. Chances are pretty low that there will be anything, but it’s always smart just to make sure the garage is in working order.

4 - Clean the Garage Floors

After the walls and ceiling are clean, it’s time to tackle the floors. Use a bucket filled with your favorite floor cleaner and hot water, but instead of using a regular mop, you might want to use a short-bristled broom that you can use to really scrub into any cracks and crevices that could be holding onto a lot of dirt.

It’s going to look so much better once it’s all dry and sparkling clean, you won’t believe the results!

5 - Install Organizing Modules/Cabinets

Consider installing garage cabinets for extra storage space that keeps all of your belongings in one spot while also keeping all of your camping gear, decorations, and cleaning supplies hidden away from view.

No more clutter in the corners which will make you breathe a sigh of relief every time you enter your garage.

As Andrea B. says:

A neighbor recommended All Organized after she had All-Organized install roll-out shelves. My lower kitchen cabinets had roll-out shelves only on the top shelf (but not soft close) and I have found trying to get to things from the lower shelves to be a problem. My bathroom has a deep 3 shelf cabinet that is a pain to find things in and reach items in the back of the lower shelves. Once I found out I needed to have spine surgery and would not be allowed to bend for 6 weeks, I immediately called Paul and All Organized! He is the owner and has been in business for many years. He came to do the measurements and 2 weeks later his installer, Hugo, came and installed them! Paul was friendly, prompt, quick, and thorough! Hugo was also pleasant, exactly on time, had the shelves installed, and left no mess at all in a very short time! I am thrilled with the shelves! They roll so smoothly, and it is now SO EASY to see and reach everything!! In the kitchen, I got the soft close for the kitchen which was well worth the little extra! The glass casserole dishes and lids don’t get jostled around! After surgery, I can use my long grabber in the bathroom cabinet, roll out the drawers and grab what I need! Even my husband is thrilled he doesn’t have to get on all fours to get pans out of the bottom kitchen shelves!! This is the best improvement I have done to my house and wish I had done it sooner!
